CUTE BOW FINGERLESS GLOVES

These are a really cute pair of gloves  that I received a request for – found a pattern on the net, but it was in two parts – the gloves in one, and then the bow bit in another.  I’ve put them together, after tweaking it a bit, and here are my notes.

This yarn is not specific for this project.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros ; Red rose metallic or  unbranded  knitting cotton as well as Oswal acrylic yarns

International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn Alize bamboo yarn ; Spotlight stores 4-Seasons Marvel and Stallion yarns or Hobby Lobby I-Love-this-cotton yarn

Instructions (Using U.S terminology)
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
Using the basic idea from the link(s) above, here is what I’ve created.
We will start our glove at the base of the palm, around wrist, and then work our way to the top of the fingers, working in a small space for the thumb to come through.

The beauty of these pair of gloves is that you can work it with one color or dual / multiple colours, and with a variety of stitches.

In the original pattern, the designer has started with chs, but you know me and my penchant for the foundation stitches – so do try and use the fsc here, as it does give you not just a better finish, but also a better stretch.. which is great for this creation.

The other tweak I’m showing you here is the use of four different stitches for the ‘body’ of your glove.
So try the sc, hdc (per designer), e-sc or e-dc to get different results.
The sc will take longer but give you a cute tiny stitch product ; the hdc gives you a small stitch and heavier / warmer product while the extended stitches (e-sc or e-dc) give you a lighter / cooler (not as warm?) product.  So go ahead and enjoy.

For e-sc / e-dc photo tutorial, scroll to the bottom of blog.
or check these video tutorials.

Extended Single Crochet (e-sc) : hk into st, yo (2 lps on hk), pull through one lp, yo (2 lps on hk),pull through both lps.  One e-sc made. (An e-sc is basically an sc on an sc)
Here is an easy video tutorial  https://youtu.be/ZeXQ3NLVjPU

(Extended Double Crochet) e-dc : Yo, insert hk into st, yo, pull through 1 loop (3 loops on hk), yo, pull through 2 lps ( 2 lps on hk), yo, pull through both sts. One e-dc made. (This is like an sc over a regular dc).
Here is an easy video tutorial  https://youtu.be/hf8XIciS8AE

We start our gloves from the knuckles and then work down the palm to the wrist and bow.  After completing the glove, we will make a bow separately and then attach it on. So let’s get started.

PART 1 : GLOVE :

Foundation Single Crochet : fsc : To refresh your skill on the fsc, please view this video https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA

Start with as many fsc as needed to go loosely around your knuckles.

Remember though that the fsc gives you a lovely stretch – depending on the yarn you’re using.  Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Note : If working with two colours, then start with the contrast colour (or the colour with which you want to make the bow).

How to change colors seamlessly : Here’s an easy video tutorial to show you how to change from the Main color to the Contrast or second color of yarn seamlessly.  View it at https://youtu.be/fRzSBja9jno

How to carry your yarn when using two colors : Here’s an easy video tutorial to show you how to carry your yarn along when working with two colours.

View it at https://youtu.be/NuascBU3pxQ

Fasten off at the end of the start row, after attaching the main colour yarn.
I will also use sc throughout  for convenience, though I have given you four stitch choice(s)

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.  One sc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Round 1 : sc in each fsc till the 2nd last fsc,
sc 2-tog over the next 2 sc, and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Rounds 2 – 5 : Now depending on how far up / down the fingers you wish to have your fingerless glove, you will work the glove till you reach the base of the thumb.
So, at the end of each round, after joining, check that you where you are, and then work the next round accordingly.
The number of rounds will depend on the stitch used,  yarn used, as well as the tightness / looseness of your stitch(es).

We then come to the small opening for thumb – here I felt that there could be a small explanation in the original pattern.. so here’s what I’d add.
so we are going to add a chain length in the next round, and then you work in the very next sc / st without skipping any sts.
Remember that the thumb opening needs to be slightly snug, so add a few ch, check the snugness or looseness and then carry on.

Round 6 : sc in 1st 2 sc ;
then add a ch length equal to your round thumb measure
and then sc in each sc all the way around ;
and join with a sl-st to the 1st sc.

Round 7 : sc in each sc (including all the ch’s added in Round 6) till end and join with a sl-st to the 1st sc.

Note : Remember to work 1 sc in each chain that you have added for the round thumb opening.

Now as the lower part of the palm and wrist are slightly slimmer than the knuckle part, we will need to decrease sts as we go along.

I suggest that we do our decreases at the thumb end only, and I’d also suggest that you decrease 1 sc every alternate round till you get to the wrist or length you desire for your glove.

The designer has suggested we work in rounds, which is a good idea as the join will then be invisible.  I suggest that when you reach the wrist or length needed, sl-st into the st  at the thumb end to finish off, so once again that finish is invisible and its easy to fasten and hide that end.

If you’ve started with a contrast colour, and wish to end with one too, remember to change colours on that last round and finish off with the contrast colour.

PART 2 : BOW :
The first thing I’ll say here is that where you place your bow will define if this is a right hand or left hand glove.  Right, so on with the pattern.

Start : With fsc (no particular number, just as many as you’d need to go across one half of your wrist – the top of your glove).  Turn

Row 1 : sc in each fsc till end.  Turn

Rows 2 - 5 : sc in each sc till end.  Turn.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew the bow on.

Bow centre strip : I have done a small fsc strip (6 fsc) and then sl-st in each st across.

Finishing :
1) First we’ll attach the bow centre strip to the bow.  So find the centre of your bow, scrunch it up and attach the strip across the centre.
       2)  We will then pin down the ends of the bow onto the top of the glove wrist part, and sew in the two ends.  I suggest not attaching the centre strip down to the glove, so that we give the bow some stretch room.
       3)  Fasten and weave in all ends.

And here's another way to make that bow without crochet.   https://youtu.be/7jYkh2Pxru0
