KATIA CROP TOP

free crochet crop top pattern
KATIA CROPTOP
I was just gifted this absolutely superb Katia Jaipur cotton yarn made in Barcelona – a superb variegated yarn in the softest of shades.  I was torn with a choice of patterns – and chose a simple one to offset the beauty of the yarn, rather than struggling with a pattern that would detract from it (*it* being the yarn’s beauty!)

I usually like to keep patterns simple when using a variegated yarn, and allowing the yarn to throw its beauty into the mix – so I do hope I have chosen well.

Thank you for joining me.

Materials usedToday I’ve used ~ 100 gms of the lovely Katia Jaipur Mercerised cotton yarn with a 3 mm crochet hook
For Indians : Though the Katia Jaipur yarn reads *Jaipur*, it’s not a locally available yarn.  It however, compares to our Indian Red rose & Anchor knitting cottons
For Non-Indians :  Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.  This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

I started this pattern off on my own, but somewhere down the line, I found a link to this site, that had the pattern written out in English.  I am thrilled to share this with you.  Go and check this link at http://genuinemudpie.ca/2016/06/25/hongdae/ for this free pattern. .. and this is the full project made by the designer

When I make my notes, I like to keep them simple such that they can be adapted to be made for any size.  So go and take a quick look at the general pattern, and if that works for you .. great! Else come back here and take a look at how I have tweaked it just a tad to get this project done.

I plan on starting with the lace pattern only at the waist level (or however long you wish your cropped top to be), and working all the way to the shoulders, without an armhole shaping.

So basically, using just this lace pattern (which is what the designer has used only for her yoke), I am going to work a simple rectangle, and have the armholes literally work themselves up – as will the boat neckline.
To see what I mean, you just gotta make this :)

The stitch count is in  multiples of 6 + 1.

Now the designer has started at the bottom of the blouse and is working to the lacy top part.  I have opted to work just the yoke pattern all the way through for my crop top.

Foundation double crochet (fdc) :  https://youtu.be/hjNUYVvyU9k

Start : with fdc in multiples of 6 + 1 for a half round waist measure

I will now request you to head to the designer's pattern sheet for the rest of this  Lacy pattern
(I gave you just the pattern stitch count for the yoke, as it is not mentioned in the pattern sheet.  As this pattern has been written up by another designer, I cannot re-write her pattern here.)

Using the pattern sheet, work the lacy pattern repeat only  for the yoke portion (or from where the designer has said "Start Lace Pattern") all the way to the shoulder.
I have decided not to work any armhole or neckline decrease, so I am going to work end to end and will have a rectangular piece that will make up my yoke.

So, I plan on making two such rectangles, and then joining them together at the shoulders, leaving a boat-neck shaped opening for the neckline.  I will also attach the sides to get an armhole in place.

Decisions & Choices : The pattern worked by the designer looks like it has shaped sleeves.  If you want your sleeve just to lightly flop over your shoulder (Magyar like), then just work a rectangle for the top portion as I have.

However using the designer's full pattern, you will get another pattern to work on too.. so this blog is, in a way, a 2-in-1 effort.
