Materials used : Just over two cones of polyester purse yarn in cones , with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends ; stitch markers ; embroidery needle.
The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.
Skill level : Intermediate.

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
For our wallet, I have used a really basic
stitch and got the effect by playing with colours.
What we do is work a rectangle, and alternate
colours as we go along. Just so that we
can all be individually creative, we are not going to write down just how many
rows you work with each colour.. Go ahead and create.
However, I am going to tell you how I worked on my creation here.
a)
We will work our wallet as a rectangle,
working side to side along the width of the purse.
b)
Decide on the length and width of your wallet.
c)
The number of stitches you start with will
determine the width of your purse and as you work along the pattern, you
will get the length of your wallet.
d) There is no fixed number of stitches that you need to
start with. Just work it according to
the width you want.
e) I love that this beautiful pattern can be worked to suit
any width or length.
As
I always suggest, please check the link at the top of this blog for the
foundation single crochet start and work as many stitches as you’d like for the
width of your wallet. Turn and then work
an hdc in each fsc all the way back.
You
will continue working 1 hdc in each hdc all the way up and down till the end of
each row. Once you have reached the
length you need for your project, fasten off.
And this is basically the pattern.
So what makes this different?
1) Well, the
use of two colours, and the mix ‘n’ match of the combination of colours.
2) The way we
are going to fold this purse. The diagram below is not to
scale – it is only to show you how we are folding the wallet and how it will
look eventually.

So
how are we folding this wallet? Into 3
sections (as against the regular 2 or folded straight down the centre)
So
once you decide how wide you want each section, you will need to make just over
2 times that width. You will then fold
first the bottom section in and then the top folds over to clip down. We will not be stitching the sides –
so when you flip this wallet open, it will be one flat rectangle. This is what makes it uniquely different.
Finishing :
Once
you are done with the pattern, I have worked one round of sc all around – not
just to neaten the edges but to give another accent with the contrast colour. Just for kicks, I also worked in a shell at
the top centre flap.
For
the shell, I just counted the sts on that last row and marked the center
stitch. Work 1 sc in each st till you
are 2 sts away from the marked centre st.
I
have worked a picot for my shell stitch, which is a ch-2 picot (ch 2 ; sl-st in
the 2nd st from hk). Check

Ok,
so we are 2 sts away from that centre marked st : dc in that marked st ; (picot
+ dc in the same marked st) ;
rep (to) 4 more times ; dc in the same
marked st ;
sk next 2 sts and work an sc in each st till the end ;
work 3 sc in
each corner and 1 sc in each st all around.
We
are done with the basic flat wallet.
And
that’s it.. your flat and easy wallet is ready to go , and we’re ready to show
off this lovely creation too.
